Gene Logic to Expand GeneExpress Suite Through Exclusive License to Protein Pathways from BioCarta Inc.
Exclusive Commercial-Use License to Protein Signal Transduction Pathways
Enables Refined Biological Context
GAITHERSBURG, MD & SAN DIEGO, CA, November 27, 2001 - Gene
Logic Inc. (Nasdaq:GLGC), a leading provider of biocontent and bioinformatics
solutions, today announced it has obtained an exclusive commercial-use license
to BioCarta Inc.'s broad and in-depth collection of signal transduction pathways
for use in visualizing protein interactions linked to Gene Logic's
GeneExpress(R) Suite of information products.
Under terms of the license agreement, Gene Logic will obtain multi-year access to BioCarta's pathways,
which will be directly linked with the existing gene expression content in the
GeneExpress(R) Suite. Gene Logic will have exclusive rights to utilize these
data in the context of a commercially available database product.
The Company plans to release access to approximately 150 of these biological
pathways with version 1.4 upgrade of its GeneExpress(R) Software System during
1H 2002. Financial details of the multi-year license agreement were not
disclosed.
The signal transduction pathways from BioCarta will provide a critical link between gene expression and protein interactions. More
specifically, they will provide functional insight to further understand the
relationship between disease initiation and progression and protein signaling
pathways involved in such processes.
In turn, this should enable further
target understanding and refined prioritization capabilities for current and
prospective pharmaceutical and biotechnology customers using the GeneExpress(R)
Suite.
Throughout the term of the agreement, BioCarta has agreed to provide hundreds of additional pathways and updates to existing pathways from
the scientific community, which constantly integrates emerging proteomic
information.
Commenting on the license agreement, Bethany J. Mancilla, Vice President, Corporate Development for Gene Logic said, "This agreement
illustrates our commitment to provide additional data-sets that complement and
expand the value and utility of our core gene expression data and its use as a
primary reference source for target discovery, target prioritization and
ultimately drug development. The combination of our comprehensive and
proprietary gene expression content and BioCarta's protein pathways provides the
basic infrastructure to enable researchers to conduct more biologically relevant
in-silico analysis, and positions Gene Logic for future expansion of relevant
content and the integration of other biologically significant data into the
GeneExpress(R) Suite of solutions."
