What is ePosters?
ePosters is like a virtual science convention. ePosters are research-based presentations uploaded to the BioCarta site by registered users. Most of our ePosters are associated with bio-medical society meetings.
At one level, ePosters help scientists bypass traditional hardcopy scientific journals and get credit for publishing their results first. Other scientists can browse descriptions of experiments and participate in online discussion with poster creators. The entire scientific community benefits from immediate dialogue about recent experiments. Moreover, by providing the scientist who posts the experiment with additional exposure for his or her research.
What are the society / meetings functions?
Biocarta partners with conferences and select societies to provide an online forum for the exchange of ePosters and information. BioCarta accepts submissions and disseminates invites to individuals registered to a specific conference or society. Attendees will be issued an automatic placeholder to upload their ePoster directly to Biocarta for their conference colleagues to view and discuss. Initially, attendees have the opportunity to edit and augment their abstracts prior to broad distribution.
How do I search BioCarta ePosters?
Select a category in which you'd like to search from the drop-down menu on the left. Next, enter a keyword in the text field on the right. Click Search, and you will receive your appropriate search results. Click the ePoster title to view it.
Alternatively, you can browse ePosters by clicking one of the three buttons below the search fields. Select from "10 Most Recent," "Societies / Meetings" and "Biocarta ePosters."
How do I view an ePoster?
Click on the title from your appropriate search result. (See above.)
How do I save an ePoster?
First, you must be a BioCarta member. Joining is a fast, easy process. Simply go to My BioCarta and sign in. After you register, return to ePosters. Clicking on Save Link will automatically save the ePoster to your My BioCarta site.
How do I correspond with the poster creator or other interested researchers?
Click on the name of the ePoster author to send them an email. There is also a discussion board associated with each poster. Click on the Discussion Board button. A new window will open containing the relevant Web board discussion - just get started!
How do I create an ePoster?
First, you must be a BioCarta member. Joining is a fast, easy process. Simply go to My BioCarta and sign
in. After you register, return to the ePosters section and select Post Your Own. If you have registered
correctly, this link will bring you to your My BioCarta account and show Your Posted Files.
To create a new ePoster, click on Post Your ePoster and you will be provided with a start page for a
new ePoster.
On the start page, you will be required to enter contact information as well as basic poster
information (gene symbols, keywords). By entering gene symbols, your ePoster will appear whenever
the genes you designate are searched for in the Gene Search section or when their icons are selected
on a pathway. Keywords help when BioCarta visitors search for posters relevant to their interests.
The next page will prompt you to enter the poster title, author names, and general abstract. When
selecting the Submit button, you will notice that the table of contents on the left will reflect the
addition of the section that you just submitted.
Then, you will be provided with a general submission form that allows you to create all of the components
of your poster in any order you choose. You can upload text for your Introduction or Discussion, or you
can upload data (in the form of .gif or .jpeg files) for your Results or Materials & Methods sections.
Note that you must enter a title for the section and either body text or an image. We recommend the
following size for all of your .gif and .jpeg files: 500 pixels wide x 400 pixels long, resolution 72 dpi.
If you upload a new image, your old one will be replaced.
You can add as much or as little information as you like. Click Update each time you complete
a section. To save your entire ePoster, click Save.
How do I edit my ePoster?
First, you must be a BioCarta member. Joining is a fast, easy process. Simply go to My BioCarta and sign in. After you register, return to My Biocarta and select the My Files tab. Click on the ePosters button to list your ePoster. Click on the appropriate ePoster title to view, hide, edit or delete your ePoster as necessary.
